The city is spread over an area of 14.95sq.km. Bhima River flows through Yadgiri city. Still today people of Yadgiri never faced water problem.

ಯಾದಗಿರಿ ನಗರವು 14.95 ಚದರ್ ಕೀ.ಮೀ ವಿಸ್ತೀರ್ಣವಿದೆ. ಭೀಮಾ ನಧಿಯು ಯಾದಗಿರಿ ನಗರದ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಹಾದುಹೋಗಿದೆ. ಯಾದಗಿರಿ ನಗರದ ಜನತೆಯು ಭೀಮಾ ನದಿಯ ನೀರನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Overview

Yadgiri, historically known as Yetagiri, it is dotted with many historical monuments and has a majestic hill fort with three rounds of fortifications. There are three ancient temples, medieval mosques, tanks and wells on top of the hill. The barren landscape below offers a magnificent view. A tank, the Sanna Kere is located in the heart of the city.

Demographics

As of 2001[update] India census Yadgiri had a population of 58,833. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Yadgiri has an average literacy rate of 56%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 48%. In Yadgiri, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. Nearly 65 percent of the population is Hindu, in Yadgiri several spiritual places are located like Mailapur Mallayya, Abbe-Tumkur Vishwaradya. Yadgir is one of the spiritual heritage. From Yadgiri via Kandkoor near Gurmitkal one Natural water Falls called Dhab Dabi nearly 5 kms from Gurmitkal. Near by Kandkoor one Natural site seeing place called Gavisiddeshwara temple present.

History

The city was under the Western Chalukyas in the ancient period. The name Yadgiri (Yadgiri, historically known as Yetagiri) is derived from its early medieval rulers. Yadavs from the present-day Andhra Pradesh. A certain Mohammed Kasim was said to be a strong chieftain who ruled Yadgiri for a long period after defeating the Yadavs, though there is no historical evidence to support it. Later, it came under the reign of the Bahamani Sultanate, the Bijapur Sultanate and finally, the Nizams of Hyderabad of. A major economic development of the city took place under Philip Meadows Taylor, the administrator of the principality of Shorapur.

Transport

Yadgir is well connected by road and railways.

Railway:

Yadgiri has its own railway station. It is one of the largest railway station in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region. It has the broad gauge railway which lies between Mumbai and Chennai. It comes under South Central Railway under Guntakal division. It has its own railway branch. The city is connected to Gulbarga, 71 km away, by both road and rail. And from Raichur its distance is 69 Km .It is actually located in between two districts. Transportion no problem in Yadgiri dist. Yadgiri is well connected to the cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Tirupati, Trivendram, Nagercoil, Pune, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Salem Dharmavaram, Lokmanya Tilak Solapur.

Road:

State Highway 15 (Raichur-Bidar) passes through the city, and connecting to Bijapur and Hyderabad. Important cities connected through buses from the city are Bangalore, Hubli, Dharvad, Belgum, Vasco da Gam, Hyderabad, Bellary

District Industry: Yadgiri district is place of full natural resource like Water (Mainly Two river flows Krishna and Bhima). and there is lots of scope for Industrilisation in future.One Sugar and fuel industry "Core Green" also established near Hiretumkur village. Recently Rich uranium deposits have been found in the Gogi belt covering the villages of Gogi, Ukkinal, Darshanapur in Shahapur taluk, and Thinthini and other places in Surapur taluk. Uranium processed here will be used for defence and power generation purpose.
